Description
A televised Oregon Public Broadcasting program featuring an interview between the two candidates of the 1986 congressional race for Oregon's 1st District, Democratic incumbent Les AuCoin and Republican challenger Anthony "Tony" Meeker. An intertitle at the beginning of the program states: "The following program is a debate between the candidates for the First Congressional District, recorded earlier today, Friday, October 24th, at the Westin-Benson Hotel." Topics discussed in the debate include economic opportunities for Oregon, nuclear energy, social justice issues, workers' rights, the federal and state budget, education, the Cold War and the Star Wars program, unemployment, crime and incarceration, handicapped parking legislation, and abortion.
This is a digitized version of an analog videorecording from the Les AuCoin Papers (MS.147) at the Pacific University Archives. AuCoin served in the Oregon House of Representatives (1971-1975) and in the United States House of Representatives from Oregon's 1st District (1975-1993).
