Description

Image mounted on cardstock of a cross-gabled house with two people standing in front of it. The man wears a light-colored suit jacket over a darker suit and has a full beard. The woman wears a long dark shirtwaist; the shirt is shiny and has a large tie at the neck, and the skirt is plain. Both hold hats. The yard is lush and grassy, and several small saplings are planted. Both porches are covered and have plants growing on or nearby.

[newspaper clipping attached] Died at Dilley Louis Groendyke, who died at his home in Dilley, Monday afternoon, July 28, at the age of 79 years, was born near Connersville, Fayette County, Indiana, Dec. 6th 1833. He enlisted in the Union Army in 1861, joining Co. E. 16th Indiana infantry and served one year. In 1865 he was married to Mary E. Hard at Glenwood, Iowa. Mr. Groendyke had been a resident of Dilley for the past 18 years where he was well and favorably known. Deceased had but one child, Mrs. May Connolly, living northeast of Banks, who had been at her father's bedside during his last illness. The funeral services were held at the residence on Wednesday morning, [illegible] 10 o'clock, under the auspices of the G. A. R. with burial at Forest View Cemetery at Forest Grove. [ink] 1912
