First Electric Trolley Car in Hillsboro
Title
First Electric Trolley Car in Hillsboro
Description
Black and white image of a large group of people standing on either side of a train track as a trolley car goes past, beneath a large banner which reads [in reverse] 'Hillsboro. Washington Co'. The streets are plank and dirt, and boardwalks line the sides. The women in the crowd mostly wear white blouses with large leg-o'-mutton sleeves, tucked into long, full skirts. Note the woman in the lower middle of the image with the striped skirt, and another woman in the lower left of the image with ruffles on her top and fitted short sleeves. The women's hats are mostly straw boater styles, though some wear dark hats with flowers and others small bonnets. Men wear suit jackets and hats. Oregon Electric Railway expanded its service into Hillsboro and Forest Grove, making the area's interurban railways one of the earliest and largest in the nation.
