The three men, Verne McKinney, Cliff Bagley, and Glen Taylor were new recruits to the military from the Washington County area and were headed out to training camp before being shipped overseas to fight in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces, the armed forces sent by the United States to fight in Europe during World War I.
