The interview begins with Dr. Miller quoting an article from the Argus newspaper on discussion of the Vietnam Conflict at Hillsboro High School. In 1965 Dr. Miller was the Assistant Principal at the school, and in 1971 he became Principal. Dr. Miller recalls a topic of conversation among students at Hillsboro high school was a student attending Lewis & Clark high school that refused to stand for the pledge of allegiance.
